Stearns Wharf is the largest deep sea water pier in Southern California. It's wooden planks add an old rustic style to it. If you are in the mood for burgers and fries, fish and chips, or some hot steamy New England clam chowder, this is the place to go.

La Cumbre Plaza

Why visit:

This is a nice outdoor plaza in downtown Santa Barbara. Going shopping in Santa Barbara can be quite a treat. You will find a variety of big name stores as well as some quaint local stores. When you get tired of shopping, there are plenty of restaurants and coffee houses to go to and relax.

The Santa Barbara Botanic Garden

Why visit:

This is one of the most scenic places I like to go besides the ocean. You can view an assortment of flowers, plants, ponds, ducks, and trees.

Alameda Park

Why visit:

This is one of Santa Barbara's oldest parks which extends two blocks. There are a lot of cool spots to have a picnic, and a fun little jungle gym for the kids to play on.

Andree Clark Bird Refuge

Why visit:

This is a great place to bring your binoculars and spy on birds in their natural habitat. You will see lots of hummingbirds, hear lots of wood peckers, and see all kinds of herons. That's the extent of my bird naming knowledge.

Elings Park

Why visit:

This is the largest privately funded park in the United States. There are tennis courts, baseball fields, tons of trails to hike and bike, and the list of sporting activities goes on. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention sky diving.

Douglas Family Preserve

Why visit:

This is a cliffhanger. Ok, what I mean is you can stand on the bluffs and view the stretch of beach and ocean below. This preserve does not have any facilities or buildings on it. It's all natural.

Parma Park

Why visit:

There are a numerous amount of hiking trails here. The large oak and sycamore trees provide a great area for picnicking. The cool thing is that it is right in the middle of the city.

Segway of Santa Barbara

Why visit:

Have you ever wanted to take a non car tour of the coastline of Santa Barbara, but you didn't want your feet to be throbbing at the end of it. Well, why not take a segway tour. They are easy to use and will save your feet a lot of pain and misery. There are about four or five different tours to take.

This restaurant has awesome steak and seafood, not to mention the view of t he harbor.

State Street

Why visit:

When I go to Santa Barbara, I always love to walk down State Street. This is the heart of downtown Santa Barbara. The street is lined with stores of all kinds, outdoor cafes and restaurants, and plenty of bars for the night life. Sometimes you can hear live music as you pass buy restaurants and bars, especially at night.

Paragliding at Elings Park

Why visit:

Well I gave sky diving and riding in a hot air balloon a try. So I figured why not try paragliding. What an ethereal and scary experience this was. You must try it.

Pali Wine Co in Santa Barbara

Why visit:

This is a great place to taste an assortment of local wines, and you can drink your wine indoors or outside in the sunshine.

Why visit:

There are a lot of cool artsy, bohemian, and other rare finds in the Funk Zone. Also, there are some great places to stop in to taste some local wines.

In October, there is an annual event in which people can indulge in fine cuisine and drink lots of wine. You'll leave needing a wheel barrel to take you back to your hotel.

Santa Barbara Farmers Market

Why visit:

On Tuesdays in the mid afternoon, a good portion of State Street is closed for Farmers Market. You will find an assortment of fruit, vegetables, and flowers from local growers on display. There is also live music and booths selling unique items.
