Ankara Kalesi

A day option in Türkiye.

Why Go: Ankara prides itself on being the most modern city in Turkey, but its architectural history dates back to the Roman days when Ancyra was the capital of the province of Galatia. A few remnants of this era remain, most notably the citadel, a walled fortress on the highest hill in the city. The quarter around the castle is worth a stroll, with restored Ottoman houses now boasting cafes and antique shops. Inside the citadel there\'s more shopping and, if you turn a corner, a slice of village life. Children run barefoot through the streets while housewives chase their chickens- you would never know you were in the center of a large city! Take a picture from the top, where you get a breathtaking 360 degree of the entire city. The castle is always open and free of charge.
