Why Go: Agra Fort is s a UNESCO World Heritage site and is also commonly known as Red Fort of Agra. It is about 2.5 km northwest of the renowned mausoleum, the Taj Mahal. The construction of this massive red-sandstone fort was started by Akbar, primarily as a military structure to protect the city from invasions. His grandson Shah Jahan transformed it into a palace using white marble. Ironically, this fort became his gilded prison for eight years, where his son Aurangzeb kept him captive. It houses many other beautiful, exquisite structures of great historical significance. Sheesh Mahal (meaning Glass Palce), Anguri Bagh, Mina masjid, The Diwan-i-Aam and The Diwan-i-Khaas are few such structures inside the fort. \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\r\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\n
