The ancient stadium of Philippopolis was built in the beginning of the 2nd century BC by Hadrian. It was 240 m long, 50 m wide and could accommodate 30 000 viewers. Now a part of it is exposed and restored, while the rest lies under Plovdiv's city centre.

The Odeon - the ancient Forum of Philippopolis - was the core of the city between the 1st and 4th century AC. Now it is restored and serves as a venue for various events. It is really picturesque and you can feel the spirit of Plovdiv in it.

This exquisite Renaissance house is built in 1863 in the European classicism style. It was owned by the famous merchant and Renaissance activist Nicola Nedkovich. Now it is preserved and restored and you can see how it looked like when the Nedkovich family lived in it (most of their possessions are also present).

The Georgiadi's house in Plovdiv hosts one of the four exhibitions of the Regional Historical Museum of Plovdiv - 'Renaissance'. The house was built in 1848 and was owned by the rich Plovdiv merchant Dimitar Georgiadi. Y ou can see the original furniture and appearance of the house as well as various expositions and objects from that time.

Built in 1835-1840, the Hindliyan's house was owned by the rich merchant and farmer Stepan Hindliyan. It is one of the most beautiful and rich Renaissance houses in Bulgaria. It is connected with the Balabanov's house through a passage. You can really feel the 19th century atmosphere here.

The unique house of the founder of Bulgarian publishing - the stationer Hristo Gruev Danov, is now a museum. It hosts the exhibition 'The publishing of books in Plovdiv and the Plovdiv region during the Bulgarian Renaissance', which is really worth seeing.

The Ethnographic museum in Plovdiv is hosted by the Renaissance house of the Plovdiv merchant Argir Kumyudjioglu. The building of the icon gallery is located in the yard of the oldest Christian church in Plovdiv - St. St. Constantine and Helen, a sight of Christian martyrdom and suppression during the 3rd century. The exhibition includes icons from the period 15th - 19th century, mainly from South Bulgaria.

The 'Todor Samodumov' school (known as the Yellow School because the building is painted in bright yellow) is the first Bulgarian high school, founded in Plovdiv in 1868. It is the only old social building that is still serves its purpose - it is a working high-school and it is absolutely worth visiting.

On one of the hills in Plovdiv /known as tepe/tepeta /, you can see the monument of the Soviet Army, known as Alyosha - a man with the height of 10.5 metres. The hill itself has altitude of 234 metres and on it there is a second monument in honour of those who lost their lives during the Russo-Turkish Liberation war. The hill uncovers a great landscape including most of Plovdiv and a great part of South Bulgaria.

The museum of the Unification is located at 1 Unification square. In front of it you can see the famous Unification monument. The hall that currently hosts the museum was built in 1885 and is still used for various cultural events. Its permanent exposition includes hundreds of objects related to the Bulgarian unification in 1885 - weapons, uniforms etc.

This is the oldest orthodox church in Plovdiv and it is still working. In the end of the early ancient era this place was an early Christian temple devoted to Severian and Mnemos, who died for their faith together with the 38 martyrs from Plovdiv, who were killed during the rule of Emperor Diocletian.

One of the oldest Ottoman temples on the Balkans, it was built in the period 1421-1451 at the place of the demolished Bulgarian church with patron St Petka of Turnovo. On the south-east corner of the building you can see a sundial - donation from a Russian officer.
